Vaccinium vitis-idaea

Vaccinium vitis-idaea, also known lingonberry, is a small evergreen shrub native to cold, temperate regions. It has glossy, oval leaves and produces small, red berries that can be eaten fresh or processed into jam, syrup or dried fruit. Vaccinium vitis-idaea often grows in wooded areas and heathlands and thrives in acidic, well-drained soil. It is a popular plant because of its ornamental value and edible fruits. It also attracts birds that love the berries.
